Leicestershire choose the sustainable roadmarking option

Since 2004, WJ has been servicing Leicestershire’s roads, with a range of services, working in collaboration to continually innovate safe, efficient and sustainable methods of working.

Now, WJ is pleased to learn that this long-term presence in Leicestershire will continue as the company has just been awarded a new contract of works from the county council.

Andy Stubbs WJ South Managing Director stated “This was one of the first contracts I secured when I started almost 17 years ago and I’m pleased to see WJ’s continued success and commitment both to Leicestershire County Council and the local community. We invest a significant amount in the area and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future”.

The contract

The contract is for an initial 2-year term, with the option to extend to 5 years and includes road markings and stud maintenance on both surface dressing and new surfacing. This new contract also secures the jobs of 8 well trained WJ employees living in Leicestershire, including 2 apprentices.

The WJ-Leicestershire CC partnership will see the integration of WJ’s bespoke software system with the counties CONFIRM asset management system. One aspect of the integration is live tracking and reporting, so Leicestershire Country Council can see when WJ operatives arrive to a job, whether it be road marking or stud installation/removal, how the progress of the job is going, and when the operatives have left site without relying on a single phone call, email or other form of person-to-person communication.

Sustainability

WJ’s modern fleet and commitment to carbon neutrality underpin their approach to sustainability and improving the environment for clients, road users and future generations.

Off the county roads, WJ will be extending their support for a Leicestershire based charity ‘The Bodie Hodges Foundation’ which is in line with WJ’s Thinking Community initiative and demonstrates commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility.

Nick Hodges, founder of the Bodie Hodges foundation commented:

“We have had the pleasure of being supported by the WJ Group since the inception of the charity in 2013 and they have been a key corporate partner ever since. They have provided tremendous financial support through an annual donation and also through regular sponsorship and attendance at our events. Their support has not only given us a financial platform on which to plan for the future and develop but they have also given us great confidence by offering advice and strategic support.

Mr Hodges continued “The opportunity to present at their annual conference and also introduce us to their industry partners has helped us raise our profile and spread our message. Their WJ approach to Corporate Social Responsibility is excellent and a model of how business and charities can work together to make a difference.”

Chris Green, Head of Highways Service Delivery commented “WJ have provided an excellent service to the County over many years and we are pleased that the beneficial relationship will continue. The innovative forward thinking solutions developed in collaboration with us alongside their community centred approach were a significant factor in the evaluation of the tender”.

The sustainable delivery in Leicestershire over more than a decade and a half, as well as their ‘community initiatives’ has embedded WJ as a real part of the Leicestershire County community.
