Diversity & Inclusion

Fairness, inclusion, and respect are an integral part of the WJ culture.

Every stakeholder we communicate with, from our colleagues to clients to the public, should be treated with fairness and respect, no matter their background. By embodying diversity and inclusion throughout the business, we ensure that our community feels heard and represented.

After-hours support

How far we move up in life depends partly on our efforts but also significantly on our starting point and background.

By removing barriers, creating new opportunities, jobs, and entry points, and offering helping hands for those who started further back, we can not only increase absolute mobility but also relative mobility, making opportunity more equal.

To ensure we’re delivering the right support for all our people we have developed a strategy focusing on the four pillars of wellbeing: social, mental, physical, and financial.

This has evolved over time and now encompasses a dedicated wellbeing app available to all employees, an independent financial advisor and mental health ambassadors across all our depots. We also provide resources for our employees to help causes close to their hearts by giving back to local communities with tangible and calculable social value.

We know that our people can be impaired in their roles by poor mental or physical health, so we check in on our employees to ensure we’re reaching out even if they feel they can’t. To date, we have completed 227 wellness sessions, checked in with 110 employees, and provided 34 hours of after-hours support.

WJ rolled out its FIR (Fairness, Inclusion, and Respect in construction) in 2016 and has since taken significant steps towards a fairer and more inclusive workspace, but we appreciate that there is still more to do to make our workplace more diverse and inclusive. To achieve this, we’re continually working together to remove invisible walls and create an inclusive workplace for everyone.
