Retexturing has significantly helped to reduce skid risks across all three sites. It is a process that can be used time and time again if the aggregate is sound, it prolongs the need for more invasive surface treatment. It also helps with reducing the carbon emitted, new material being used and disruption to the road user
Euron Gwyn Jones, Senior Engineer, Cyngor Gwynedd Dwyfor Highways
The retexturing will now ensure members of the public are safe from skidding on these sites during their travels in Cheshire. For up to four years, the areas targeted by WJ Group will retain their skid resistance, maintaining tyre grip on the surface. With this prediction, we have an accurate idea of when the road will need to be treated again, allowing for financial considerations to be made in advance for a full resurfacing.
Tom Branton, Construction Team Leader, Ringway Jacobs
Collaboration is a WJ core value, and well aligned to the Costain Galliford Try project team culture. That shared value formed the basis of this supply chain relationship which ensured extraordinary outputs on the delivery of road markings with significant cost savings.
Howard Dukes, Costain, Supply Chain Manager
May I iterate the genuine appreciation of the efforts from everyone involved which allowed this scheme to be safely decommissioned ahead of the challenging Jan 31st deadline.
Darren Lindsay, Construction Manager, Balfour Beatty
Road Markings whilst not a major factor in financial terms have proved to be a vital element in delivering Highways England and our own Imperatives of Health & Safety, Customer and Delivery. Over the 2-year contract period, WJ consistently provided high levels of service delivery and safety, with Zero RIDDOR or Incidents.
Their forward-thinking approach, exceptional delivery, innovation and high-performance road markings, road studs and ERA bay surface coatings have added real value towards the overall scheme objectives.
Danny Brown, Project Director, Costain Galliford Try
What we’ve achieved here on the A38 with our supply chain partner WJ, is a job that satisfies all three of our imperatives; safety, customer and delivery.
Adrian Oulds, General Manager, Highways England East Midlands
The A14 upgrade will result in a reduction of 3,035 accidents over the 60-year life of the project. High-performance road markings and good visibility for road users, especially in adverse conditions, are key factors in delivering this improvement in safety.
It has been a real pleasure working with WJ; they were a key member of the A14 project’s integrated delivery team and should be acknowledged for their contribution to the project’s success
David Bray, Project Director, Highways England
Road Markings have proved to be a vital element in delivering Highways England and A14 IDT imperatives and meeting the standards demanded of an Ultra Site. WJ’s collaborative way of working, combined with their forward-thinking approach, excellent safety standards, and exceptional delivery, have added real value to the project. If you couple this with their innovative ways of working and consistent high performance, road markings have been at the forefront of what makes the A14 a special project, and they have made a real contribution towards the overall success of the scheme.
Mark Berg, Project Director, A14 Integrated Delivery Team
Safety for both road users and our workforce is paramount at Osborne, so when HW Martin and WJ came to us with the idea of implementing Stopped Vehicle Detection on this scheme, we were really excited by the opportunity.
Mark Rainbow, Traffic and Logistics Manager, Osborne
We have known for a long time that SVD was the way forward on temporary schemes to improve safety and that this was the best product on the market, the hard part was finding a suitable scheme with an amenable contractor. Luckily for us, Osborne have been very keen to introduce new safety innovations and have greatly supported us in making this happen with WJ
Mark Sluds, Contracts Manager, HW Martin
Customer safety is our number one priority, particularly when working on significant changes to the road system. We are always looking for new ideas and innovations that can help improve safety, and the reduction of queue jumpers speaks for itself. We are pleased WJ was able to support us with this and provide such an innovative use of their speed camera system.
Alistair Goodsir, Chevron Traffic Management
Despite a slow start, we completed the scheme one week ahead of programme. Much of this time saving was down to WJ putting in additional resources to complete the HFS quicker. We had a curveball thrown in towards the end where Haydn insisted on a new bollard and base, but all was achieved on Friday with some additional signage off the EDR programme.
Chris Bancroft, MAPM, Construction Assurance Manager, East Midlands Area, Roads South Highways England
Ensuring our 12 Green Flag Parks and wider greenspaces are the best environment for local people to enjoy, especially as we emerge from the restrictions imposed by the pandemic is essential. It’s really important to encourage interaction with public spaces and drive that return to normality. We’re really impressed with how WJ supported us in achieving our ideas. The work they carried out has helped to turn our parks into visually appealing places for everyone to actively enjoy.
Lee Buggie, Principal Wellness Development Officer, Bury Council
Amey on the Forth Road bridge have had to change some line markings and instal coloured texture surfacing to certain sections of the network to comply with Police Scotland enforcement concerns for the Public Transport corridor. This work was reviewed internally and designed with Police comments in mind, and WJ were contacted to carry out the works. A pre start meeting was held with all the various sites identified and a program was supplied by Brian and Chris, which had to take into account various working restrictions and also a tight timescale, as the legal order was already being processed by Transport Scotland. Despite a couple of late design changes, the works were carried out to the agreed program and to the satisfaction of the client and Police Scotland.
Michael Robin, Principal Operations Manager, Forth Road Bridge, Amey
